The Amendments
The first ten Amendments collectively are commonly known as the Bill of Rights.
Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified12/15/1791.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Does the "redress of grievances" strike a chord with any of you. Maybe an Article v convention?

the thing about this amendment is the fact that it essentially places the religious establishment above the law.
it essentially is declaring that the only law that the religious establishment must abide by are the laws of God as each religion declares those laws to be for themselves.
it is also stating that any laws meant to regulate other establishments in society do not apply to religious establishments.
not above, but outside the law. it says CONGRESS, meaning Fed. Not states. I suppose under only the Fed that the states could actually establish a religion, but put it into context of the Anglican church of England. This amendment lays out the protections against most of the worst offenses in the Delcaration.
Yes I believe the time draws near when a Con Con is necessary.
Kook,
now that is an interesting perspective. i myself overlooked the use of the word Congress in this amendment and what it means.
i will also say that you just showed why having many perspectives on the issue can be helpful to others also.
Always remember that the founders were limiting the FED not usually the states. Virginia I think had a state religion in their constitution for quite a while. The founders dis not want a new church of England type thing in the new country. No nationwide central govt mandated religion. They were preventing te things that had been dine to them by the king.
You know I was lost deep in the woods and until recently didn't care. In short my understanding is growing everyday and I am being to see the meadows. I agree with you KooK, these first ten amendments were meant as the limitations of the Fed. The states rights are not to be encroached upon by the Fed on these items. Religion is individual choice that at the largest level of encroachment would be the state. Leaving one to decide upon choices of local settlements. Each item expressed here was the God given rights to man reaffirmed by the states not the Fed. The states created the Fed, not the other way around. That is why the people can assemble and petition in the legal avenue to redress the gubbermint. This to me is further proof in my eyes, the enumerated powers granted to congress can not overstep those boundaries and expressly these ten areas.
by the way --
KooK I agree with my friend griper, you are a great addition to this and I welcome and Thank you for the contribution. Please feel free to come back and comment again. Like I said this was only to educate by the expression of ideas based on individuals knowledge of their readings of the documents. again Thank both of you for your time given. sharky
For reference. All 50 states have already submitted over 700 applications for an Article V Convention call, well in excess of the 34 required to caused Congress to call a convention. The applications can be read at www.foavc.org.
Just wondering, if I mention article v 500 times if your fucking spam will hit 500 times. Thanks bill for that info that you have sent numerous times.
Sorry for that -- been a tad punchy lately. Now with the raid in kentucky by the Fed on a "christian" militia do you think that this may have broken this amendment. Where were the local/state level police. I'm not saying they were innocent so let's stop that line now. I'm just asking the question of freedom of religion and precieved threats. The amish and musilam people are free from healthcare slavery chains. Yet the demonization of christain beliefs go unyeilded. The "No Good Friday just spring holiday" was at least at local level and should remain there for the local residents to hash out.
I know I'm running of at the mouth, haven't been sleep well and having a bad case of tiredhead. So please except me apology
Establishment of religion is a State right, not a Federal one, agreed.
The Danbury Letter that Jefferson wrote is a solid look into this issue. Here:

Even as a Christian, I do not believe in our Federal government enforcing or establishing a National Religion, especially Christianity. Jesus never said He wanted to be our President. That would be ridiculous and improper. Now, if a State, based on the majority Will of the People, wanted to do something like that...
I did like your 'redress of grievances' quip, Landshark. I never really thought of that. Hmmm. Worth a deeper look, isn't it?
